Missions Focused Weekend

On Saturday, October 19 at 7:00 PM we will host Emmanuel Doulat with God's Fellowship Ministries of Pakistan. Emmanuel will be giving a seminar on building bridges with non-believers, especially focusing on how to minister to Muslims. On Sunday morning, October 20 at 10:30 AM Emmanuel will speak again as part of our morning service, sharing his life testimony as a Pakistani believer and representing GFMP. GFMP is a ministry that plants churches, helps persecuted people, supports and trains pastors and distributes free Bibles in Pakistan. An offering for the ministry will be taken as part of our Sunday morning service.

Isaiah said, "Here I am, Lord. Send me".  Mary said, "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word."  Abraham left his homeland at the call of God, not knowing where he was going.  These giants of faith in Scripture show us what God can do with simple servants of His who make themselves available.  Our annual theme this year is available - exploring from Scripture what leads people to make themselves available to God for His purposes, and responding ourselves to this call by making ourselves available to Him by His grace.

Foundations: a back to the basics study of what we believe. The first part of the series will be a Biblical study of what we believe about who God is, who we are, how things stand between us. A supporting document to our study will be CMC’s Statement of Theology. The second part will then be the exposition of how we live our lives based on what we believe. For this part of the series we will use our own Statement of Faith & Practice as a supporting document.

Associate Pastor

Associate Pastor

Merlin Miller

Merlin married his wife, Heidi, in 2000 and together they live with their 7 children (3 sons and 4 daughters) in Shipshewana, IN.  While in high school the Lord began drawing Merlin to a personal relationship, and in 1998 he chose to signify his commitment to Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord through baptism.  Soon after that he began serving at Riverview, preaching as a lay pastor as early as 2001.  In 2006 he was licensed as the associate pastor, in 2008 ordained to that role, and in 2010 transitioned into the role of senior pastor.  His passion remains to preach the Word of God in a systematic, clear and applicable way in order to exhort others to exchange the selfish life for one dedicated to Christ.  A verse that was instrumental in his conversion, and remains fundamental to his life is Proverbs 3:5-6:

Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Glen Gingerich

Glen and his wife Elsie live near White Pigeon.  They have 3 sons, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Glen began attending Riverview at age 4 with his parents in 1954.  He came to Christ at age 13, began serving in the ministry at age 23 and retired as Pastor after 37 years.  He is currently serving as Associate Pastor, assisting with pastoral care.  Glen’s passion is for the Church of Jesus Christ, especially encouraging others to use their God-given gifts to serve the Lord of the Church!  Phil 3:14:

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Merlin Bontrager

Merlin and his wife Regina live in Middlebury, IN along with their 6 children.  On April 20, 1978 Merlin was saved and dedicated his life to Christ, and his desire is to honor and glorify God, and to stir others to knowing Christ.  He has served as an elder at Riverview to fulfill that desire since 2007.  His favorite verse is 1 John 1:9 because of the promise of forgiveness it contains if we confess our sins:

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Elwood MILLER

Elwood and his wife Christine live in White Pigeon, MI.  They have 2 grown sons, Caleb (who is married to Kayla) and Trenton, and 2 grandchildren, Emma and Owen.  Elwood accepted Christ as his personal Savior at a young age, and one of his primary goals is that his life is a good testimony of Christ.  He has served as an elder more than once at Riverview, most recently since 2005. A meaningful Bible verse for him is 1 Corinthians 10:13:

There hath no temptation taken you but such as man can bear: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it.

Ernie Miller

Ernie and his wife Ruby live in Middlebury, IN.  They have two sons, Caleb and Kerry.  Ernie has been an elder at Riverview since 2015 and is passionate about living and showing that there is ONE God and there is NO OTHER!  At the age of 14 Ernie trusted Christ for his salvation, and since then has claimed Isaiah 41:10 as a special verse:

Fear thou not. For I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Deacon

ED MILLER

Ed has been married to his wife Marilyn since 1960 and they have 3 sons, 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  They reside in Bristol, IN.  He has been a follower of Christ since the age of 11 when he accepted Jesus as his Lord and was baptized.  His passion is for his family to also serve the Lord, and that others who are lost would come to know the Lord.  Having previously served as an elder, Ed has now been a deacon at Riverview since 2014.  His favorite verse of Scripture is John 14:1 which reminds him that we do not need to fear the future because God is in control:

Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God believe also in Me.
